Timing High Recovery Timing is everything when it comes to a high recovery. Lets now incrementally decrease the time from getting into position and initiating the recovery stroke. Learning You do not have long to get into position when a wave knocks you off balance so we now need to be able to quickly get into position. You also need to be able to fire the right muscles at the right time so that the movements happen in a way that produces an effective recovery. Allowing the body to actually hit the water before you perform the recovery can help give you time to get into position as well as taking some of the downwards force of the capsize away. If you land with your back on the water into an efficient body position this can give you more time to get into position. Exercise Using your paddling partner try to reduce the time it takes you to set up before you use the recovery stroke. You want to keep shortening the setup time until your partner can just let you fall over onto the water and you get the timing just right so you come back up! You are high recovering. Move on when... You can do a high recovery without your paddling partner to hold you in position first.
