100 Days of Ukulele 2022 - Day 54: “A Horse With No Name”

I needed something not too taxing today, so I took a two chord (Em and D6) version of “A Horse With No Name” (1971) by Lee Merton "Dewey" Bunnell of the band America and added a third chord (because I felt like the chorus worked better with F#m in place of D6), applied Terry’s #thirdtakethursday principles to keep my number of attempts low, and hit record. The arrangement I found had a more complicated strum, but I found that simplifying things worked just as well. Played in 2021: Jazz comping with Abe Lagrimas Jr. Played in 2020: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (Garland) https://youtu.be/CCy9ZSfMdyw Played in 2019: “Bus Stop” https://youtu.be/s5vk_55h9hs Played in 2018: “Canary in a Coal Mine” https://youtu.be/E4mZItRWxkI Project Notes and Reflection: For the fifth year in a row, I’m sharing 100 ukulele practice sessions as 100 posts in 100 Days, for the #100DaysUke2022 (formerly 100 Days of Ukulele Songs) offshoot of #the100DayProject. Last year I made some changes to my project to make it more sustainable and compelling (to me). Now I want to focus more on songwriting and arranging, as well as technique. My goal this year is to sketch out and share a draft (it doesn’t need to be finished) of a new song every 10 days, instead of every 25. The point is not perfection; the point is to make a habit of creativity and practice.
