I first tied the Shenk's White Streamer about 20 years ago and tied it using wool instead of rabbit and was amazed at how well it fished and caught fish. Once you learn the subtleties of the rabbit or wool in a dubbing loop the fly is very simple to tie. The trimming is the part that takes the most time. This video has some extra footage on how to use the rabbit in a dubbing loop to help those who may be knew to this technique. By the way, I learned this pattern from Harry Murray's book Fly Fishing for Smallmouth Bass, in my opinion one of the top five Smallmouth fly fishing books ever written. Tie some of these streamer in weighted versions and non weighted versions for some great fun on the water. Here's a little tip: if you fish one of these unweighted, you have to hold the fly under the water and squeeze out all of the air in the rabbit so it will swim just under the waters surface. As well when you cast it, you will shake off some of the water in the rabbit, give it a few seconds (or quick strips) to get it under the water again. -- Enjoy ** Note: this tying video was originally released on the Locals Dressed Irons Tying Guild a year ago and only available to supporters of the Guild.
