Low-Cost, Miniature Gamma Spectrometer Demonstration

The device shown is a low-cost, compact, wireless radiation detection device. In this video, it is configured as a gamma-ray spectrometer and displays a Cs-137 spectrum on a mobile phone. The device is based on a silicon photomultiplier coupled to a CsI(Tl) scintillation crystal and an FPGA-based digital pulse processor. This detectorwas developed at Oregon State University in the Advanced Radiation Instrumentation Laboratory by students in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics.
