Glenn-Gould-plays-Mozart-in-a-1968-radiobroadcast

December 3, 1968 Glenn Gould plays Mozart Sonatas on CBC Tuesday Night. (On that evening, Gould was up against Elvis Presley's 1968 Comeback Special for those who could pick up NBC television from across the border.)     • Video   This broadcast of K.284 and K.309 was made between the recording and release of the same sonatas for Columbia, while K.310 was broadcast just before it was recorded for Columbia. (according to Nancy Canning's Catalogue) It is difficult to listen to them and not suspect that Gould used the same sessions for both purposes. For what it is worth, here are my conclusions in comparing this radio broadcast to the Columbia versions: K.309 I different – slightly quicker; II some subtle differences; III different – quicker tempo K.310: I same; II different tempo; III different – very slightly slower K.284: I different; II same – the humming matches; III different If this parlour game interests you, let me know your findings in the comments. 0:00 Harry Freedman introduces: 0:06 Sonata 7 in C K.309 15:46 “Well, Glenn, you've made some derogatory remarks about Mozart.” GG speaks with James Kent 20:55 Sonata 8 in A minor K.310 35:07 “I am in love with early Mozart.” 36:53 Sonata 6 in D K.284
