One of the most common concerns our clients share is simple and deeply personal: “Will I be able to maintain my quality of life in Russia? Will there be places to go with my family?” At the OKA Agency, we understand, that relocation is about far more than visas and housing. It is about finding a new home — a place where you and your family can live comfortably, safely, and with genuine enjoyment. Today, we would like to show you what a weekend evening in Nizhny Novgorod might look like 🎶 Recently, we visited one of the city’s most remarkable cultural venues — the Pakgauzy complex. Located at the breathtaking confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers, this unique exhibition and concert space has become one of the city’s cultural landmarks. The buildings themselves date back to 1822, when they were constructed as part of the All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition and served as port warehouses. The name Pakgauzy comes from the German language ("Packhäuser") — a reminder of the site’s historic trading heritage. Today, these structures have been carefully restored and transformed into two modern concert halls, where elements of the original architecture have been beautifully preserved. During a recent classical music performance, what impressed us most, was the atmosphere. In the audience were families with children, young professionals, and elegantly dressed guests of an older generation. It was a relaxed, welcoming, and safe environment — one, where people of different ages come together through their shared appreciation of art. Every detail here is designed to create a memorable evening: ▫️A concert hall with panoramic views of the river and stunning sunsets ▫️ A photography exhibition in the bright foyer before the performance ▫️ A cozy café where guests can enjoy coffee during the intermission In Nizhny Novgorod, this kind of cultural experience is not an occasional luxury — it is part of everyday life. Before long, evenings like these can easily become your own new Friday tradition. 💬 Would you like to learn more about life in the Nizhny Novgorod region? Write to us — we will be happy to answer all your questions with honesty and transparency! Здесь продумана каждая деталь для вашего идеального вечера: ▫️Зал с панорамным видом на реку и невероятными закатами ▫️Фотовыставка в светлом холле перед началом концерта ▫️Уютный буфет, где можно выпить кофе в антракте В Нижнем Новгороде подобный культурный отдых — не редкое событие, а приятная повседневность ✔️Subscribe to the OKA Agency: We make you fall in love with Nizhny Novgorod More information on our website! Vodka? Balalaika music? Serious faces that never smile? Maybe even a bear walking down the street? Many of these images are among the most common stereotypes about Russia. But how much of it is actually true? Our CEO Jakob Pinneker decided to ask that question to the most famous symbol of all these stereotypes — the Russian bear. 🎥 In our new video, the Russian bear talks about the most common myths about Russia. About ideas and perceptions that are still widely believed abroad. And do you know what? The bear turned out to be surprisingly friendly. Just like many other things people tend to be cautious about — until they experience Russia for themselves. 👉 Watch the video and see for yourself. Because one thing becomes clear: Russia is often very different from how it is portrayed. If you are thinking about moving to Russia and want to discover the country for yourself — a Russia where people live, work, build families, and start businesses — we would be happy to guide you along the way. ✔️Subscribe to the OKA Agency: We make you fall in love with Nizhny Novgorod More information on our website! https://clck.ru/3SXQGj #LifeInNizhny

Today, March 8, marks International Women’s Day. While this Holiday is celebrated across many countries, in Russia it carries a particularly special meaning and scale. It is more than just a date in the calendar — it is an official National Holiday, a day when the entire country pauses to express gratitude to women. Cities come alive with concerts, streets fill with flowers, and men offer their congratulations to the women in their lives — their wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and colleagues. In schools and kindergartens, children prepare heartfelt celebrations, dedicating poems and songs to their mothers. In our video, we captured one of these touching moments — take a look and feel the warmth and sincerity of the occasion! 🫶 This day is a time to express appreciation for the love, care, and warmth that women bring into our lives. Observing the families of our resettlers, we are reminded again and again of the remarkable strength and resilience of women — especially when it comes to creating a home. Even from the very beginning, in a new country and among unfamiliar streets and traditions, women so often become the warm center, around which family life takes shape and flourishes. To all the wonderful women — we warmly congratulate you on this special day. Thank you for all that you do and for the light you bring into the world. May spring begin with smiles, and may every day bring new reasons for joy 🌹 Текст на русском языке 🌸 Поздравляем с Международным женским днем! 🌹 ✔️Subscribe to the OKA Agency: We make you fall in love with Nizhny Novgorod More information on our website! 💅Beauty, the Russian way: how Russian professionals set global standards Russian beauty has long been legendary — recognized on international runways, across social media, and in the fashion capitals of the world. Yet, behind this reputation lies more than natural charm. It reflects the sophistication and depth of Russia’s beauty industry. From hair design and nail artistry to professional makeup and aesthetic treatments, Russian specialists are in such high demand, that clients often travel — and wait in line — even beyond the country’s borders to experience their expertise. In Nizhny Novgorod, the beauty sector is so well developed that clients arrive from neighboring regions specifically for its services. The city is home to more than 200 salons, ranging from intimate neighborhood studios to elegant premium spaces. Many platforms even allow you to customize your visit in advance: whether you prefer conversation with your stylist or quiet relaxation, which beverage you’d like served, or whether you’d appreciate a cozy blanket during your treatment. Loyalty systems remember your preferences and even celebrate your birthday — creating an experience where you feel less like a client and more like a welcomed guest. Despite the high standards of service, prices remain notably more accessible than in major capitals. Here, professional care and genuine attentiveness are simply the norm. Maslenitsa is one of Russia’s most beloved and vibrant traditional festivals. Rooted in ancient custom, it marks the farewell to winter and the joyful anticipation of spring. The celebration lasts an entire week and does not have a fixed date, as it is tied to Easter. This year, Maslenitsa week begins on February 16 and concludes on February 22. Each day of Maslenitsa carries its own meaning and traditions, but the central symbol of the festival is, without question, the blini — a thin, golden pancake. It represents the sun, its warmth, and the coming of spring. Throughout the week, families prepare blini and share them generously with relatives, friends, and guests. They are served with honey, sour cream, jam, caviar, or fish. According to tradition, the more blini you prepare and share, the more prosperity and well-being your home will enjoy in the year ahead. The most significant day of Maslenitsa is Sunday, known as Forgiveness Sunday. On this day, people ask one another for forgiveness, symbolically letting go of past grievances and entering the new season with a clear heart and renewed spirit. Naturally, this day also features the most spectacular public festivities. Cities and town squares come alive with horse-drawn sleigh rides, traditional circle dances, and lively open-air fairs. It is a unique and visually stunning celebration that brings communities together in a spirit of warmth and joy. Were you familiar with the traditions of Maslenitsa? Nizhny Novgorod stands out as one of Russia’s most comfortable and livable cities. It offers a calm, measured pace of life, well-developed infrastructure, high-quality education, and a vibrant cultural environment. According to the analytical platform Numbeo, the city ranks second in Russia for quality of life, ahead of both Moscow and St. Petersburg. At the same time, Nizhny Novgorod enjoys a unique geographic advantage: Moscow is just 400 kilometers away. By Russian standards — where distances are often measured in thousands of kilometers — that is remarkably close. The capital is easily accessible: approximately four hours by comfortable high-speed train or just one hour by air, with round trip tickets averaging around €60. This means you can build your life in a green, well-balanced, and genuinely comfortable city — while maintaining seamless access to all the opportunities of a global capital. Spending weekends in Moscow is an excellent way to complement life in Nizhny Novgorod. Stroll through historic districts, explore world-class museums and exhibitions, dine at outstanding restaurants, and attend internationally renowned cultural events. To illustrate where to begin discovering the capital, our CEO, Jakob Pinneker, visited one of Moscow’s most iconic destinations during a recent business trip: VDNH, the city’s largest exhibition and cultural complex. Here, history, architecture, and innovation converge with contemporary urban leisure. Watch the video and discover Russia with us! Nizhny Novgorod offers a dynamic environment for professionals across a wide range of fields — including artists and leaders of the creative industries. The city actively values, supports, and cultivates talent, providing meaningful opportunities for professional development. One flagship example is the ARTMIR International Art Fair, held annually in the modern pavilion of the Nizhny Novgorod Fairgrounds. For this occasion, Jakob Pinneker, CEO of the OKA Agency, personally guided us through the exhibition. Even on a weekday, the venue was bustling with visitors — clear evidence that contemporary art in Russia is vibrant, engaging, and in high demand. What makes such initiatives particularly valuable is their ability to bring generations together. The exhibition welcomed families with children, young professionals, and older visitors alike. Special educational programs were organized for younger guests, including painting workshops and theatre activities — reinforcing the role of art in education and cultural continuity. 🌍 This year, the exhibition features 398 artists from 29 cities across Russia and 18 countries worldwide, making it a truly international platform. ARTMIR is dedicated to fostering cultural dialogue, showcasing Russia’s artistic heritage, and celebrating the diversity of traditions, languages, and artistic expressions from around the globe. 🎥 Watch our video tour to experience the atmosphere of contemporary cultural Russia firsthand! Moving to a new country involves not only major strategic decisions — such as visas and housing — but also dozens of everyday practical questions. On Tuesday, January 27, Moscow became a venue for an important dialogue on the future. The Kremlin Palace hosted the ceremonial plenary session of the 34th International Christmas Educational Readings — a leading public and ecclesiastical forum dedicated to preserving traditional spiritual and moral values and shaping the next generation. At the special invitation of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese, Jakob Pinneker, CEO of the OKA Agency, attended the event to strengthen cooperation between the Agency and state and religious institutions in advancing a shared strategic agenda focused on reinforcing the value foundations of society. Forums of this caliber are essential for gaining deeper insight into the expectations of our relocating clients and serve as a cornerstone for the Agency’s effective and responsible work. “For many foreigners, Russia represents a safe haven — a place where they can live in harmony with their roots and convictions. The mission of the OKA Agency is to serve as a trusted guide on this journey, ensuring that every newcomer feels they are not merely moving to a new country, but finding a spiritual home,” — Jakob Pinneker Among the distinguished participants were senior representatives of the clergy, including His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. We highly value that initiatives aimed at strengthening society’s fundamental reference points — respect for elders, cultural heritage, and faith — receive recognition and support at the highest state level. This is a strong confirmation of the strategic direction we have chosen. “The Christmas Readings are a large-scale platform that brings together clergy and laypeople from across Russia and abroad to discuss key issues in education, culture, social service, and other areas of ministry. The opportunity to gather in unity, with such a broad representation from different dioceses, is of immense value to all of us after decades of persecution of faith in the last century,” — Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas 🎥 We captured exclusive behind-the-scenes moments and spoke with representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. Haruka Takemi, a young and talented ballet artist from Tokyo, chose the Nizhny Novgorod region to continue her professional career. She is now a member of the company at the A.S. Pushkin Nizhny Novgorod State Opera and Ballet Theatre, marking a deliberate and strategic step in her artistic development in Russia. We are proud to share that the first and most critical milestone in adapting to life in Russia — obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) — has been successfully completed together with Haruka. Our team provided comprehensive support at every stage of the process, from document preparation to submission through the Passport and Visa Service (PVS). Thanks to our close partnership with PVS, the procedure was exceptionally efficient, transparent, and comfortable for our client. 💯The result: Haruka received all required documents smoothly, without delays or unnecessary stress. She is now fully focused on rehearsals, performances, and building her new life in Nizhny Novgorod. Audiences already have the opportunity to see her perform live — productions featuring Haruka are currently on stage. On the night of January 18–19 and throughout the following day, Orthodox Christians celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (Epiphany), one of the most significant feasts in the Orthodox Christian calendar. During the Epiphany vigil, believers take part in the Great Blessing of Water, which many then keep in their homes throughout the year as a sacred object of spiritual protection and renewal. One of the most well-known traditions associated with Epiphany in Russia is the practice of the Epiphany plunge. Each year, thousands of people across the country immerse themselves in icy waters during the night of the feast. Special openings are cut into the ice of rivers and lakes, typically in the shape of a cross. These openings are known as “Iordans”, named after the River Jordan, where, according to the Gospel, Jesus Christ was baptized. Before the immersion begins, a priest blesses the water. Participants then enter the water — traditionally three times — making the sign of the cross and offering a brief prayer. For many, this ritual is an expression of faith, spiritual purification, and inner renewal. Are there any special traditions associated with this feast in your culture or family? 👨👩👦👦 More on website - https://oka-agency.com/?utm_source=oka_social&utm_medium=english_rutube&utm_campaign=lifeinrussia&utm_term=19012026
